HOME Line is working on a project that involves contacting and connecting public housing agencies, social service providers, Community Action Programs and a wide variety of other local groups with our grassroots tenant organizing and advocacy services. We hope this will provide many more low-income Minnesotans with an opportunity to engage their elected officials on affordable housing issues and public policy. We look forward to partnerning with you.
Below you will find proposed drafts of materials that your agency can use to introduce the people you serve to HOME Line's services. Our goal is to connect with as many low-income renters (and those in need of housing assistance) as we can via the multitude of organizations who serve them throughout Minnesota. By collaborating with these groups, both the organizations themselves as well as the low-income people that they serve will benefit from increased civic participation which, in turn, raises awareness of the current plight of affordable housing.
The Minnesota Tenants Alliance (MTA)—a grassroots, tenant-led group of concerned affordable housing supporters that HOME Line collaborates with—has celebrated several exciting affordable housing policy victories over the past year that were made possible by the increased civic engagement of low-income familes such as those your organization serves.
Please click on the links to download a PDF copy of each document. We can revise any of the below materials or draft something new and more targeted for your community if needed. Let us know the best way to most effectively make this partnership work!
- Flyer for people that you serve, explaining our goals and how they can participate in advocating for proactive affordable housing policies.
- Example of an MTA Action Alert that we send to interested tenants. Our organizers then follow-up with a phone call reminder. This example is a generic "FY08 HUD Budget" alert, asking residents to call their congresspeople and request adequate funding for all HUD programs for 2008. We focus on many other similar issues throughout the year, on a local, state, and federal basis.
- MTA's most recent newsletter that was mailed to thousands of tenants across the state directly before the 2006 midterm election. Similar newsletters covering a wide variety of housing topics typically go out 2 to 3 times a year.
